The claims handling process in the insurance business is time consuming and labor intensive, typically involving five steps—investigation, assessment, evaluation, negotiation and settlement. While claims adjusters have the training and expertise to spot fraud, they are overwhelmed by the rapidly growing caseload. A large health insurance organization had to quickly prepare its defense against charges of unfair practice. Consequently, this required the company to analyze 1.2 million call records gathered over a month’s time for any evidence of legal violations.
